UHF SO-239 Coaxial Lightning Arrester — Female-to-Female Protector
Product description
This coaxial lightning arrester is supplied as a single inline unit with UHF female-to-female (SO-239) terminations and a grounding lug with mounting screw for bonding to chassis or earth ground.
The outer conductor is brass with a nickel-plated finish to enhance hardness, wear resistance and corrosion protection for outdoor exposure. The center contact is brass-plated to maintain a stable RF connection and low contact resistance. PTFE is used as the insulating material around the inner conductor to preserve dielectric performance and extend service life.
A gas-discharge tube is incorporated into the arrester to safely divert sudden overvoltage events away from connected equipment. That protective element reacts to rapid voltage spikes on the coax and routes surge current to the grounded body of the unit.
The device follows the UHF/SO-239 form factor and is a compact inline assembly sized to fit standard SO-239 ports and typical cable-entry openings. It is intended to be mounted as close as practical to the point where the coax enters a structure or connects to the protected equipment.
Installation is straightforward: thread the female SO-239 ends into the coaxial run or enclosure, secure the ground lug to a reliable earth reference, and ensure the arrester is bonded and as near to the equipment or cable entry as possible. Proper grounding is required for the arrester to function as intended.
Pros
- Durable nickel-plated brass construction
- Low insertion loss and wideband RF performance
- Simple inline SO-239 mount and grounding lug
Cons
- Grounding screw is small and can be fiddly
- Not a waterproof seal—requires weatherproofing when exposed
- Limited to UHF (SO-239) style coax connections
VerdictA compact, mechanically robust UHF (SO-239) inline lightning arrester built for radio and RF systems. The nickel-plated brass exterior and brass center pin offer dependable conductivity and corrosion resistance, while PTFE insulation preserves signal integrity. It uses a gas-discharge tube to divert surge energy to ground when needed. Install it close to the entry point of the coax and bond the gr

Hope It’s Never Needed
Seems well made, though I certainly hope it’s never called on to stop an actual lightning hit.
