Laundry
Reusable Plastic Dryer Balls (Set of 4) — Fabric Softener Alternative
Product description
What’s included: a set of four reusable plastic dryer balls intended for everyday laundry use. Each ball is lightweight and roughly the size of a golf ball, making them easy to add to any dryer load.
Material and build: molded from durable, odorless plastic that won’t leave residues on textiles. They’re non-toxic and reusable, designed to withstand many cycles before needing replacement.
How they work: add the balls to a load in the dryer and run as usual. The balls tumble with your laundry, separating items so hot air reaches fabrics more evenly. That increased circulation helps cut drying time and reduces clumping.
Performance features: these balls soften fabrics mechanically rather than with chemicals, so towels keep their absorbency. They also help dislodge pet hair and lint during tumbling, collecting it on their surface instead of on clothing.
Practical notes: because they don’t rely on fragrances or added agents, they’re a straightforward, economical alternative to liquid softeners and sheets. Over time a ball may wear or crack and can be replaced as needed.
Pros
- Reduces drying time by improving airflow
- Softens fabrics without chemical additives
- Helps lift lint and pet hair from clothes
Cons
- Can rattle loudly in a near-empty dryer
- May not eliminate static cling fully
- Will eventually wear or crack with heavy use
VerdictA practical, chemical-free way to soften laundry and speed drying. These plastic balls are quieter than wool, help separate items for better airflow, and catch some hair and lint. They won’t replace every fabric softener habit (static can persist), but they’re economical and reusable.

Basic but fine
They look and act as expected — nothing fancy, but they work.

Softening works, noisy
They softened fabric about as well as wool balls, but I was disappointed they didn’t pull fur from acrylic throws. Also, they can be quite loud in the dryer.

Does what it says
They fluff items and prevent them from tangling together during the cycle. Works as advertised.

Good replacement for sheets
Nice product. I use two instead of a sheet and get good results.

Very pleased
I really like these. They keep garments from getting so wrinkled and help maintain softness. No musty scent and no mess.

Does the job
I used these to revive some flattened throw pillows and they did the trick. They also loosen up heavy jeans and other thick items. They aren’t a total swap for my liquid softener — I still notice more static than with sheets — but they’re well made and don’t smell odd. Satisfied with the purchase.

Works, with a tip
They function well, but don’t run them with just a shirt or two — they can make a lot of noise if the drum is mostly empty.

Too small for me
About golf-ball sized — I found them ineffective for my needs.

Saves time and cleans pet hair
They cut down on drying cycles and handled both cat and dog hair on bedding. Very impressed.

Exactly as advertised
These perform as promised and will save you on dryer sheets. They last through many loads but may crack after extended use, at which point you swap in a fresh one. Glad I found a replacement after losing my previous source.

Perfect firmness
These have the right weight and rigidity. I had cheaper ones that crumbled; these feel sturdy and aren’t noisy. My sheets are noticeably less wrinkled. I’ll buy another set.
