If you want a quick dessert without leftovers, this berry compote for two is ideal. It’s wonderful over ice cream or pie.

We love dessert, but in a two-person household it’s easy to end up with too many sweets when I go on a baking streak. To avoid drowning in cookies or cupcakes, I often take a break from baking. That helps, but the cravings return fast. Rather than making a full batch, I started preparing smaller, shareable desserts — like this simple berry compote made just for two.
This compote is a great solution when you want something sweet but don’t want leftovers. It’s easy to make with whatever berries you have on hand and is perfect spooned over a bowl of ice cream or drizzled on pie.

Berry Compote for Two
This topping is incredibly quick and forgiving—you’ll want to keep berries in the fridge for impromptu cravings. I used blueberries and blackberries, but raspberries or diced strawberries work equally well.
To make the compote, you combine the fruit with a splash of orange juice, a little sugar and warm spices, bring everything to a boil, then simmer until the mixture thickens and the berries have broken down. The aroma alone will have you reaching for bowls and spoons.
Serve the compote warm over ice cream, yogurt, pancakes or pie. It yields just the right amount for two people and is a fast, satisfying way to enjoy a sweet treat without a pile of leftovers.
