Meetha paan drink

Meetha paan is a sweet Indian digestive drink inspired by the flavors of the classic meetha paan—betel leaves combined with nuts, fennel, coconut and fragrant sweeteners like gulkand. This chilled drink brings those familiar post-meal flavors into a smooth, refreshing beverage that works beautifully for Diwali celebrations, parties, or any festive get-together. It’s aromatic, lightly sweet, and great as a palate cleanser after a heavy meal.

Betel leaves for a drink

Use fresh, dark green betel leaves if available. In many places the darker leaves are easier to find and deliver strong aroma and flavor. Adjust the number of leaves to suit how intense you want the paan flavor.

Ice cream

Vanilla ice cream is optional but recommended for a creamy texture and a pleasant contrast to the herbal notes. It mellows the flavors and makes the drink more indulgent.

Shredded coconut

Use finely shredded or desiccated coconut. Avoid fresh or frozen chunks unless you finely process them first. If using a coarse desiccated coconut, pulse it briefly in the blender to make it finer. I used unsweetened coconut.

Add-ons

This recipe uses coconut, gulkand, cardamom and fennel seeds as primary add-ons. You can also experiment with dates, tutti frutti, or other preferred flavors, but stick to small quantities so the paan aroma remains central.

Can I consume the drink immediately?

Yes. You can serve it right after preparing or chill it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Shelf life

Store the drink refrigerated and consume within 2 days for best flavor and freshness. Avoid keeping it longer.
