I’ve been enjoying my air fryer a lot lately. My husband thinks fries and pizza are food groups unto themselves, so having a better-for-you fry option is handy for our household.

Air Fryers & THM

An air fryer is a great tool for sticking to Trim Healthy Mama (THM) eating. It lets you quickly make on-plan snacks, sides, and even desserts without turning to the drive-thru or relying on a microwave.

I’ve used mine to make cookies, appetizers, roasted vegetables, and meats with excellent results. If you’re following THM, an air fryer can expand your recipe options while keeping meals simple and tasty.

Air Fryer Sizes

Choosing the right air fryer size helps you prepare the right quantity without repeated batches. Here’s a quick guide to common sizes and how they fit typical household needs.

Three-quart air fryers work well for two to three servings and are compact enough for small kitchens.

Six-quart air fryers are a good fit for families of four or five, offering more space to cook larger portions at once.

Ten-quart air fryers are great for larger households or anyone who likes to cook big batches. They’re helpful when feeding six to eight people or when you don’t want to run multiple cycles.

For very large batches or multi-function cooking, a toaster oven/air fryer hybrid can be useful. These units often handle sheet-pan style cooking and larger quantities that standard basket-style air fryers can’t.

About Jicama

Jicama is a crisp, mildly sweet root vegetable that can be eaten raw or cooked. It stays pleasantly crunchy after cooking, so jicama fries retain a fresh, vegetable bite rather than becoming soft like a potato fry. Its neutral flavor takes well to seasonings, making it a versatile side that pairs nicely with chicken strips, burgers, and more.

If you can’t find jicama, turnips make an acceptable substitute in this recipe.

Why I Use Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is a good choice for air frying because it has a high smoke point and a neutral flavor. It tolerates higher temperatures without breaking down, which helps maintain a clean, healthy cooking process and avoids creating unwanted oxidation products.
