Canson XL Mix-Media A3 Spiral Pad — 300 g/m², 30 Sheets
Product description
This spiral-bound sketchpad contains 30 sheets of 300 g/m² mixed-media paper in A3 format. The paper has a medium tooth that accommodates a variety of techniques, from watercolour, gouache and acrylic to pencil, pastel and ink. Each sheet is acid-free and manufactured without optical brighteners so the natural white remains stable over time. A fungicide treatment improves resistance to ageing.
The pad is backed with a thick cardboard board to reduce waviness during wet work and to provide a firm surface when working away from a desk. The spiral binding includes micro-perforations on each sheet for easy, neat removal without tearing. With 30 pages per block, it offers plenty of practice and finished pieces for students, hobbyists and regular users alike.
Use the paper for heavy washes and layered paint as well as for dry mark-making; its medium grain provides enough texture for visible strokes while still allowing smooth colour application. The format is convenient for larger compositions and for cropping down when required.
Pros
- Heavy 300 g/m² sheets suitable for wet media
- Medium grain works for both wet and dry techniques
- Cardboard backing and micro-perforation for clean removal
Cons

VerdictA versatile, heavy-weight pad designed for artists who switch between wet and dry methods. It’s a practical, study-quality option for students and frequent users who need quanti

Versatile, reliable support
Very satisfied with the Canson XL mixed-media pad. The sheets are thick and pleasant for pencil, markers, ink and light paint. The block format is handy for home or taking out; a good all-purpose choice for crafts and drawing.

Disappointing with washes
Claimed to suit watercolour but I had problems: edges bled and pigment pooled in the vertical grooves.

Watercolour-ready
Excellent material for watercolour work.

Dimensions aren’t truly A3 usable
Paper quality and texture are great and the detaching line works, but the wire and tear margin eat into the A3 area so your finished sheet is smaller than true A3.

Handles heavy washes well
My son uses this for GCSE work. It copes with lots of water and the textured surface is like a thick linen. Heavy to carry but perforations are handy.
