Every year I eagerly wait for the first signs of the holiday season. Not the early Christmas aisles in July, but real seasonal touches that make the weeks ahead feel special. That hint of change in the air, cozy drinks, and festive decorations signal a shift in mood that I look forward to.
Starbucks generated a bit of controversy recently with their plain red cup, which some interpreted as a “war on Christmas.” As someone who celebrates Christmas, I thought that reaction was overblown. The cup wasn’t meant to be a battleground. What I loved was how Starbucks opened the design conversation—artists submitted their illustrations, and several creative designs appeared that embraced holiday themes. This year’s cups felt festive, and my first peppermint skinny latte this season was delightful.
Before heading to my local coffee spot that morning, I dragged myself out for an early run. Fall running in Alabama is wonderful—cooler air, crisp mornings, and colorful leaves make runs more enjoyable and energizing.
That day was Grandparents’ Day at school, which means a sea of proud grandparents visiting the Kindergarten classrooms. With so many families attending, I made a little extra effort with my teacher wardrobe—boots, autumn leaves, and the whole seasonal look felt just right.
Since the day was busy and not exactly relaxing, I let Stephen take me out for dinner—tacos, of course. There’s a local spot that knows my order well; cheese is always my favorite. It was a simple, satisfying end to a full day.
Another unmistakable sign of the season: Hallmark Channel started airing Christmas movies on October 29, and I’ve had holiday music and decorations on my radar ever since. We even decked the RV, which turned into a small adventure—Frankie, our pet, was decidedly unimpressed by the tinsel and lights.
Consider this your friendly warning: the holidays are officially underway here at Katrina Runs for Food. Expect seasonal content, cozy recipes, festive runs, and all the little joys that come with this time of year. I wouldn’t have it any other way
