This 10-minute blackened tilapia is one of my go-to weeknight meals!
Ingredients
Tilapia fillets:
- Vegetable oil (about 1 Tbsp. per fillet)
Blackening Powder:
- 1 Tbsp. smoked paprika
- 2 tsp. thyme
- 1 tsp. cumin
- 1 tsp. oregano
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions

In a small bowl, mix the dry spices to make the blackening powder. Moisten each tilapia fillet with a little water or cooking spray, then press both sides into the spice mixture to coat. I typically use about 1 Tbsp. of seasoning per fillet.

Heat about 1 Tbsp. of vegetable oil per fillet in a skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is shimmering and nearly smoking, add the fillets. Cook for about 3 minutes per side, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Remove from the pan and serve immediately.
