We’ve Moved One Last Time — Our New Home & What Changes?>

A Beautiful Plate Bend Oregon

Hello! How was your summer? If you noticed radio silence here, you weren’t imagining things.

We’ve moved again — this time for good. If you’ve been following along, you’ll remember that last summer we packed up our life in Chicago and moved across the country to Salt Lake City for my husband’s final year of surgical training.

After five years of downtown life, our routine changed dramatically. City strolls and lakeside walks were replaced by long hikes, downhill skiing, and everything the mountain west offers.

It was a welcome change during a period of uncertainty, though it brought its own challenges and many adjustments.

Within weeks of moving, we began traveling and interviewing for jobs nationwide. We considered many options: returning to Chicago, moving back to the East Coast, heading further west, and every size of town in between.

After years of limited choice, having the freedom to decide was both exciting and a bit overwhelming. Ultimately, a slower pace, smaller community, and access to outdoor recreation rose to the top of our priorities. We had caught the mountain bug.

Many months and careful decisions later, we’ve settled in Bend, Oregon. It’s been a long journey, but we feel lucky to call this lively mountain town home. It still feels a bit surreal: in less than ten years we’ve lived in four states, four cities, and moved seven times.

If you’ve been here since the beginning, thank you for sticking around.

We feel enormous relief to finally put down roots after a turbulent couple of years. We’re settling into our first home — no more unpacking — and enjoying time off together and with family while tackling the many tasks a big move brings.

It has been a distracting year, but it’s wonderful to be inspired by a kitchen again (sneak peek below). Our new home even has several fruit trees, which has been a delightful surprise. I’ve gotten back into sourdough baking and tried canning pear butter and plum jam.

Thank you for your support and patience during the rollercoaster of the past year. There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes.

We’ve done plenty of soul-searching and are grateful to begin this new chapter in such a wonderful place. More to come.

Thanks, as always, for being here. xx
